China has successfully tested solid-fuel variable flow ramjet engine which could enhance the real combat ability of the country's stealth aircraft and boost firing range of missiles, local media reported Tuesday.
A team from No. 4 research institute affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) disclosed on May 31 that it has successfully conducted two flight tests with the ramjet engine, state-run Global Times reported.
The new ramjet engine is now ready for further engineering application, paving the way for China's next generations of hypersonic missiles, CASC team said.
The new engine, can remarkably increase the firing range and mobility for air-to-air missiles and antiship missiles equipped with China's stealth aircraft including the J20 jet fighters, Song Zhongping, a military expert who used to serve in the PLA Rocket Force, was quoted as saying in the report.
The solid-fuel ramjet engine is a member of the ramjet engine family, which has the advantage of low cost, high power, and high controllability with compact size, it quoted Science and Technology Daily as reporting.
The engine will enable the J20 fighters to fire from greater range and the missiles to fly faster at a hypersonic speed, which will increase their combat ability, Song said.
Once the engine achieves miniaturization, it will very likely enable China's air-to-air missiles to strike targets up to 300 kilometers at a speed faster than Mach 5, Song estimated, adding that the engine can be applied to China's latest missiles including PL12 missiles.
China's Guizhou JL-9 jet trainer that was developed for the country's air forces has rolled off the assembly line for the last time Monday. The JL-9, also known as the FTC-2000 Mountain Eagle (Shanying), is a two-seat fighter-trainer developed by the Guizhou Aviation Industry Import/Export Company (GAIEC) for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF)
China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp (CASIC) has developed a new ultra-fast anti-missile interceptor capable of intercepting an incoming projectile flying 10 times faster than a bullet. CASIC was quoted as saying by China Daily Saturday that its Second Academy in Beijing has made a "new-generation aerospace defense missile" that incorporates top space technologies, and which it describes as one of the cornerstones of a world power's strategic prowess
The successful launch of California-based Rocket Labs' battery-powered and 3-D printed rocket yesterday that costs $5 million per flight could challenge affordable satellite launch services from India and China. The first flight was conducted in New Zealand facility because of the open seas to its south, and a relatively low amount of air traffic, unlike in the United States, boats and flights have to be re-routed for most rocket launches
The Aviation Industry Corporation of China's Leihua Electronic Technology Research Institute has claimed the development of the world's first two-dimensional airborne air cooled active phased array fire control radar. The radar has been tested during flight evaluation, an article in Global Times said adding that the radar system, replaces pulse-doppler radars on jet fighters with active phased array radars
Scientists at Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed a first prototype of microwave photonics-based radar, which analysts said could revolutionize the detection and imaging of targets for a wider range of military and civilian applications. The new radar is said to have the features of fast-imaging, high resolution and clear identification of targets, having the highest resolution among all the micro-photonic radars currently known, and is even 30 times higher than similar radars worldwide, the Institute of Electronics at Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said in a statement on its website early this week
China's first near-space solar drone ‘Rainbow has successfully conducted a flight at an altitude of 20 km on Tuesday. The project team under China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation announced Tuesday that the CH UAV, flew smoothly in near space for over 15 hours under control, finishing its scheduled path before landing securely, Xinhua reported
The Chinese government has published a draft law that will allow authorities to mount surveillance on Chinese, foreign nationals and organizations in the interest of national security. The 28 articles in the draft, which were open to public consultation until June 4, state who should lead intelligence gathering, the rights of the intelligence agencies and the protection of agents and their families
China said Friday that it has been vigilant over the military activities of the countries in the South China Sea in reference to the US Rockwell B-1B heavy bombers that flew over the disputed water Thursday. China's Ministry of National Defense(MND) said in response to news released by the US Pacific Command that two U
Chinas first domestically produced single-aisle passenger jet uses Gore Skyflex Aerospace Materials for panel sealing and surface protection throughout the aircraft. Gores materials remain in place under compression and do not squeeze out, providing a durable barrier between the faying surfaces, as well as a seal against contaminants
China is looking to expand its military ports in countries with which it has a longstanding friendly relationship and similar strategic interests, such as Pakistan, a report by the Pentagon has said. China is "expanding its access to foreign ports to pre-position the necessary logistics support to regularize and sustain deployments in the 'far seas," the country will most likely pursue opportunities to build bases elsewhere, naming Pakistan an interesting location, the Pentagon annual report to Congress says
