Irkut MC-21 airliner will soon be undergoing windtunnel tests with the new Russian-made PD-14 high-bypass turbofan, developed by United Engine Company (UEC) subsidiary Aviadvigatel.
Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute researchers are to examine the flight characteristics of the twinjet, FlightGlobal reports. The institute says this will include simulation of high angles of attack, and assessment of the aircraft in take-off and landing attitudes.
The PD-14 is designed as an alternative to the Pratt & Whitney PW1400G geared turbofan to power MC-21, the Russian aerospace industry’s new single-aisle competitor to the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX families.
Aviadvigatel designed the PD-14 to offer specific fuel consumption 15 per cent better than current-generation Western engines such as the CFM56 family and the IAE V2500 and to offer 99.96 per cent dispatch reliability, the product description by the design bureau states.
Irkut Corporation, the manufacturer of Russias first narrow-body commercial aircraft, confirmed that the first flight model of MC-21 will be equipped with the advanced locally-made PD-14 engine in 2019. "In 2019, well have plane No
Russias United Engine Corporation plans to invest 21.9 billion rubles (USD 390 million) into its production facilities in 2017-2025 for mass production of PD-14 aircraft engine for the new Irkut MC-21 airliner
Russian Aviadvigatel will showcase one of the PD-14 test engines at the MAKS-2015 airshow. The indigenous fifth-generation engine for the Russian short and medium haul MS-21 aircraft uses composites as materials
The MC-21-300 test aircraft performed the first flight from the airfield of Flight Research Institute, M M Gromov in Zhukovsky city near Moscow today. During the more than three hours flight, stability and controllability were assessed at altitudes varying from 6,000 to 12,000 meters
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin said Russia is considering setting up a MC-21 Aircraft Maintenance Center in Uzbekistan. "We also wanted to talk about the MC-21
The first prototype MC-21-300 aircraft of Irkut Corp, Russia flew from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant to the Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky near Moscow today covering a distance of 4500 km at an altitude of 10,000 meters non-stop for six hours. This was the first long distance flight of the MC-21 test aircraft whose flight tests began earlier this year
The QD70 gas turbine meant for military and civil aircraft applications developed by the Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC), was unveiled at an ongoing aviation expo that kicked off on Tuesday in Beijing. The Aviation Expo China 2017 is being held in Beijing with exhibits covering aircraft engines, gas turbines, graphene material and high precision aluminum alloy technologies
Irkut Corporation has started the second stage of in-plant development tests for Russias newest commercial plane MC-21, the manufacturer announced Wednesday. "On September 13, the second stage of MC-21-300 in-plant development tests program began," the corporation said in a report at its official homepage
