Rockwell Collins bagged a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract to develop new electronically scanned array (ESA) antenna technology as part of the Arrays at Commercial Timescales (ACT) program.
This program aims to make ESAs, a common building block component that is digitally interconnected, reconfigurable, and readily upgradeable. It also aims at reducing the total cost of procurement by 80 percent.
ESA antennas offer numerous system level benefits such as rapid beam movement, reconfigurable antenna patterns, and graceful degradation of performance as the system ages. This program will make ESA solutions affordable for smaller, low cost applications.
DARPA and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on a joint DARPA/Navy research and development program called “Tern". This joint effort builds upon the existing work of DARPAs Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node program, or “TERN,” which has been exploring concepts for a long-endurance and long-range aircraft that would operate from a variety of Navy ships
The US Defense Department along with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency on Tuesday said they are developing a method of autopilot that may allow the military to reduce air flight crews to a fraction of their current size. DARPA says it will work to introduce automated flight systems in aircraft over the next 50 years
The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is developing a developing a new vehicle to silently transport commandoes to their missions. Logos Technologies has won a $100,000 contract to develop stealthy, hybrid-powered motorcycles that relies on both electric and gas power, allowing special ops to go off-road and zip past enemy forces with the silence of an electric engine, while also being able to handle extended missions and higher speeds with a supplemental gas tank
Rockwell Collins has been selected by the US Coast Guard to provide the Radar Sensor System (RSS) for 102 MH-65E aircraft. Rockwell Collins RTA-4114 MultiScan Weather Radar with enhanced ground/shoreline mapping and a new maritime surface search mode will provide the Coast Guard with a lightweight, flexible, and supportable solution
Singapore-based SilkAir has selected Rockwell Collins new MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar, for its 23 Next-Generation Boeing 737s. SilkAir has also chosen Rockwell Collins Dispatch 100 service and asset management program for its new Boeing fleet
Rockwell Collins today announced that James ‘Jim Walker has been appointed as vice president and managing director of Asia Pacific. “Jim brings a unique combination of regional business acumen, geopolitical savvy and seasoned leadership experience to Rockwell Collins,” said Mahoney
Zen Technologies is partnering with Rockwell Collins to combine their strengths in simulation and training to provide solutions to Indian military customers, the company stated in a press release. Rockwell Collins provides aviation simulation and training products, systems and integration solutions
Lockheed Martin, in partnership with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the University of Notre Dame, has demonstrated the airworthiness of a new beam control turret being developed for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and AFRL to give 360-degree coverage for high-energy laser weapons operating on military aircraft. A research aircraft equipped with the Aero-adaptive Aero-optic Beam Control (ABC) turret conducted eight flights in Michigan
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) today said one of the key goals of the Ground X-Vehicle Technology (GXV-T) program is improving the survivability of ground-based armored fighting vehicles by increasing vehicle agility. Vehicle agility involves the ability to autonomously avoid incoming threats, either by rapidly moving out of the way or reconfiguring the vehicle so incoming threats have a low probability of hitting and penetrating—all without injuring the occupants in the process, it said
Pentagon is eyeing next-generation armored vehicles that are more mobile, maneuverable and survivable, but with less armor. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) will host a proposers day to give potential contractors a more clear idea of what the Defense Department wants in its Ground X-Vehicle Technologies program in September
DARPAs Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics (SyNAPSE) program has developed a new chip that mimics brains power-saving efficiency; uses 100x less power for complex processing than modern chips, DARPA said in a statement. The SyNAPSE chip is designed by researchers at IBM and is loaded with more than 5 billion transistors and boasts more than 250 million “synapses,” or programmable logic points, analogous to the connections between neurons in the brain
Sandia National Laboratories and Rockwell Collins are selected for Phase 3 of the DARPA Meso-dynamic Architectures program. The aim of the program is to research light-to-sound conversion in ultra-small optical waveguides and develop future system capabilities beyond those attainable with existing technology
