The Indian Air Force is set to prolong the operational life of trainer aircraft Kiran, Defense Minister Arun Jaitley said in Parliament Tuesday.
The IAF has not been able to resolve critical wing and airframe design and development issue relating to developing the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) as a replacement for Kiran aircraft.
The Indian Air Force believes its requirement for surface to air missile weapon system can be fulfilled by indigenously built Akash and said there is no need for importing or co-developing a similar system.
