Russia is developing a unified space system for detecting launches of ballistic missiles, which will become one of the key guidelines for establishing the nuclear deterrence force, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu was quoted as saying on Thursday.
“Creation of a unified space system is one of the key guidelines for the development of Russia’s nuclear deterrence forces. As a result, we shall be able to detect launches of various ballistic missiles, including test launches of experimental models from world ocean areas and the territories of countries making such tests,” Shoigu said at a conference.
He added that the future system would replace the missile attack warning means created back in the Soviet era, according to Itar-Tass.
The unified space system will incorporate new generation space satellites and also upgraded command posts controlling the orbital cluster and gathering and processing special information in the automatic mode, the report added.
