Sri Lanka might become the first customer to acquire the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet from Pakistan.

According to Pakistan based 92NewsHD reports, Sri Lanka might order around 18-24 lightweight multi-role jets, which are locally produced in cooperation with its ally China.

The report confirms Pakistan’s claim of selling its JF-17 Thunder fighter to an Asian country at the Paris Air Show 2015 earlier this month.

The news report suggests that Sri Lanka might be the first to purchase the JF-17 arose earlier this month when a photo of the office of a Sri Lankan air force commander revealed a scale model of the JF-17.

The JF-17 is developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China is also known as FC-1 Xiaolong in China.

Sri Lanka has seven J-7 fighter jets and nine Y-12 transport aircraft acquired from China and has an additional order for two MA60 transport aircraft.
