Russia and Iran have signed a memorandum on the implementation of  an earlier agreement to supply S-300 missile defense systems to Tehran.

"This week, a memorandum on the implementation of the agreement to supply Russian S-300 missile defense systems to Iran has been signed. It is a kind of a 'roadmap," a senior official from the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation was quoted by RIA Novosti.

No details of the memorandum were given out. The report quoted the official as saying that the memorandum does not specify a specific time frame, the number of systems to be delivered or prices.

Earlier Iran announced that it is expecting to renew a contract for the delivery of Russian S-300 missile defense systems by next week.

In April this year, Russia had lifted the ban on S-300 deliveries to Iran, shortly after the P5+1 group of international negotiators and the Islamic Republic reached a framework nuclear agreement but a final nuclear deal was reached in July.

The S-300 is a series of initially Soviet and later Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, based on the initial S-300P version.
