Poland Orders 79 POPRAD Surface-to-Air Missile Systems For $273 Million
Polish military orders 79 Poprad self-propelled surface-to-air missile system

The Polish Army has awarded a PLN 1.08 billion (US $273 million) contract to PIT-RADWAR to supply 79 Poprad self-propelled surface-to-air missile systems.

The deal stipulates that the company will supply the army with 77 POPRAD systems and will upgrade two others that had been delivered earlier, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

The weaponry will be equipped with short-range rockets, Grom and Piorun.

Bartosz Kownacki, the deputy Minister of Defense, said that he is happy to sign such a big agreement with a Polish company. “The deal will increase Poland’s defense potential, so that Poles will feel safer.”

POPRAD is a short-range anti-aircraft system capable of destroying air targets at low and mid altitudes, using homing guidance missiles.

Each Poprad is armed with four Polish-made Grom MANPADS. Two existing vehicles will be upgraded and PIT-RADWAR will manufacture 77 more vehicles from 2018-2021.
