The CH2M Hill Company in Virginia Beach has been awarded $240 million contract for environmental clean-up projects for the US Navy on the East Coast of the United States.

"CH2M Hill, Virginia Beach, Virginia, is being awarded a maximum amount $240,000,000… for environmental action services on Navy and Marine Corps installations at sites in… [the] Atlantic area of responsibility (AOR)," the US Department of Defense said in a statement on Thursday.

The Defense Department explained that most of the work on the contract will be carried out in the US states of Virginia and North Carolina, as well as the US territory of Puerto Rico. Work is expected to be completed by January 2021, it added.

The award came as the Obama administration has been reported as pressuring the Defense Department to take environmental concerns into account on many of its policies.
