A series of six conventional submarines will be built for the Pacific Fleet, the Russian Navy official said Saturday.
"In the perspective the Navy is making attempts and, evidently, they should find a confirmation in construction of another six submarines (project 636), which would go to the Pacific Fleet," Chief of the Russian Navy’s shipbuilding management department Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Tryapichnikov said, TASS reported quoting the Russian News Service radio station.
Last September, the Russian Pacific Fleet added a new generation ballistic missile submarine, the Vladimir Monomakh, a Borei class (“North Wind”) submarine.
The captain further said that at the end of the year, country’s only aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will undergo modernization and updated wing of the ship will include new MiG-29K and other aircraft, Russian news service reported.
The Russian Pacific Fleet will be receiving new warships in 2014, the fleets commanders said. “Rather large-scale deliveries of new equipment, new warships to the Pacific Fleet will start in 2014,” Rear Admiral Sergei Avakyants said
The crew of the Russian Pacific Fleet have tested two supersonic cruise missiles during training exercise in the Okhotsk Sea water zone, the defense ministry said Monday. According to the ministry, the nuclear submarine cruiser Tomsk fired a supersonic naval anti-ship missile Granit from “a submerged location” and Varyag guided-missile cruiser launched Bazalt supersonic anti-ship missile, successfully hitting the assigned target
