Rolls-Royce has been selected to provide MT30 gas turbines to power new multi-purpose amphibious vessel for the Italian Navy.

Two MT30 gas turbines will power the new 20,000 tonne displacement Landing Helicopter Deck (LHD) multi-purpose amphibious vessel. The ship will be built by Fincantieri under the Legge Navale ‘Naval Law’ – an investment programme to renew the Italian naval fleet, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The MT30 is derived from Rolls-Royce aero engine technology and builds on over 45 million hours of operating experience.
