India will discuss the deal to produce ammunitions for UAE during the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to the country for the first-ever joint military exercise on May 24.
Sources in the Defence Ministry told Tribune India that the UAE was looking to source its ammunition needs from India. The UAE will fund the manufacturing facility and India will produce the same.
Besides this, the Indian side will pitch in its abilities to service the Hawk trainer aircraft used by the UAE. The plane produced by BAE is also produced at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the IAF uses it.
On the military exercise, sources were quoted as saying that it would be between the air forces of the two countries. The UAE uses French-origin Mirage 2000 fighter jets and the F-16 fighter jets procured from the US.
Parrikar’s visit is the first by an Indian Defence Minister to the UAE.
UAE is likely to defer a decision to procure 60 Rafale jets from France to 2017 or 2018. The order could also be divided into three tranches of 20 aircraft each
Two Emirati pilots have reportedly died in a crash on Monday after the fighter aircraft went down due to “technical issues” in Yemen, Saudi state television reported. The announcement comes after the state-run WAM news agency of the United Arab Emirates announced the “loss of F-16 fighter aircraft”, which was taking part in operations against Iran-backed rebels in Yemen on Monday
Indias Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has slammed the state-run Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) saying that among 152 types of ammunition used, 40 percent would run out in less than 10 days. The report by the CAG has raised issues of critical shortages in ammunition mentioning that another 55 percent of the ammunition was below the Minimum Acceptable Risk Level (MARL),
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has approved possible sale of $785 million worth of munitions, sustainment and support to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE requested $740Mln in guidance kits and bombs, as well as $45Mln of non-major defense equipment, the release noted, DSCA said in a statement Tuesday
