General Dynamics has won a $101.3 million contract from US Navy to continue developing common missile compartment for Ohio replacement submarine and UK’s successor-class ballistic submarine.

The modification is for the procurement of 22 missile tubes to support the manufacturing of the Common Missile Compartment, the company announced Wednesday.

In December 2012, the five-year contract worth $1.85 billion was awarded for Electric Boat, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, to perform research and development work for the Navy's next-generation ballistic-missile submarine, which is scheduled to begin construction in 2021.

The potential value of the overall contract is $2.5 billion.
