GLOCK Emerges Lowest Bidder In Philippines Army’s Handgun Acquisition Project

Handgun manufacturer GLOCK has emerged the lowest bidder for the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) 9mm Pistol acquisition project worth PHP1.497 billion (US$29.4 million) for 74,861 units of handguns.

Trust Trade, authorized distributor of GLOCK in the Philippines was declared as the lowest bidder during yesterday’s Bid Submission and Opening, Update.ph, a Philippines defence news website reported.

“Trust Trade declared the lowest bidder, which bid Php60 million lower than the second lowest bidder Intrade Asia Pacific, and Php130 million lower than the 3rd lowest bidder Precision Munitions,” Update.ph said adding that while Trust Trade had offered the Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol, Intrade pitched in with the SIG Sauer P320, and Precision Munitions offered the Beretta APX.

Post Qualification Inspections of Trust Trade/GLOCK and Glock 17 Gen 4 will follow.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been speaking about providing every soldier a pistol as an extra firearm to defend themselves whenever they are not carrying a long firearm.

On July 18, the President handed over to AFP 3000 units of Rock Island Armory 1911 .45 caliber pistols from Arms Corporation of the Philippines (ARMSCOR).
