Saab has received a follow-on order from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the IDAS-2 self-protection suite for the Indian Army’s Dhruv helicopter.
The order includes the IDAS-2 (Integrated Defensive Aids Suite) and the production will take place at Saab’s facility in Centurion, South Africa. The order amounts to approximately MSEK 350 and deliveries will begin during 2019.
“This follow-on order confirms our successful partnership with HAL and further establishes Saab as a local partner to the Indian industry,” says Anders Carp, head of Saab business area Surveillance.
IDAS is designed to provide platform self-protection for rotary and fixed wing aircraft in sophisticated, diverse and dense threat environments. It has achieved outstanding operational success with a growing list of customers in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The product is in operational use in many countries on helicopters, commercial transport aircraft as well as fighters.
“The system has a long and successful history with proven capability on many airborne platforms. This order strengthens our position as a supplier of high-tech systems to the Indian Armed forces,” says Trevor Raman, head of Saab Grintek Defence.
The first green helicopter earmarked for Indian Coast Guard has completed its build with installation of basic systems and had a successful maiden ground run in Bangalore, India today. It was handed over to the Rotary Wing R&D Centre, a design house of HAL for integration and certification of 19 new systems
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is likely to float a Request for Information (RFI) soon for identifying an Indian private agency that can produce the civilian version of the ALH Dhruv helicopters in future. Considering the increasing need of helicopters in civil operations of the country, this will be a mega deal from HAL which is the OEM and Licensor
The state-run Hindustan Aeronautics will transfer the technology of its advanced light helicopter Dhruv to a domestic defense manufacturer for commercial production. HAL is in the process of identifying a private entity with whom it will share the technology for the production of twin-engine combat helicopter in India, unnamed official sources were quoted as saying by PTI Sunday
The Indian Army is preparing to deploy a squadron of Dhruv advanced light helicopters equipped with weapons in the northeast border that it shares with China. There are four weapon stations on the helicopter with a turret gun in its nose area
Indias state-run Hindustan Aeronautics has appointed R Madhavan, presently executive director as its new chairman and managing director. He will take charge of the top post when incumbent T Suvarna Raju retires on August 31, they said
Hindustan Aeronautics Limiteds Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) T Suvarna Raju, flew the locally-made Light Combat Aircraft Tejas from HAL Airport in Bangalore today. The twin seat variant of LCA (PV5) was piloted by Group Captain KK Venugopal, VM (Retd) HALs Chief Test Pilot
