Leonardo has announced a program to upgrade the C-27J Spartan military tactical transport aircraft with avionics, communication and winglets.
The new C-27J baseline configuration will be characterized by a brand new avionics system. The main benefits include compliance with new civil aviation regulations and military requirements as well as obsolescence risk reduction.
The new configuration will be tested and qualified in 2018 and it will be available in 2019. New Operators will leverage more modern avionics, improved operational costs and aircraft performances, within the aircraft fly away price, a Leonardo statement said.
Leonardo will present the C-27J as the best solution for African Countries. A C-27J model will be on display at the Africa Aerospace & Defence exhibition in Pretoria later this week.
The aircraft demonstrated to be particularly suited to support international operations, civil defence, tactical transport and VIP transport. It is the ideal platform for operations in Africa as it can be loaded and perform tactical and operational missions from non-prepared runways, at high altitudes and high temperatures, capabilities still unmatched by other same-class aircraft.
Umberto Rossi, SVP Marketing and Sales at Leonardo Aircraft, said: “The C-27J Spartan is the most effective multi-mission airlifter available on the market today. Its capability to operate from the most rudimentary airstrips, in extreme environmental conditions cannot be matched by any other twin-engine airlifter.
Ordered and deployed with full satisfaction by the most important Air Forces, the Spartan has already fully demonstrated its ability to effectively accomplish any tactical transport mission, ranging from disaster relief to “last tactical mile” troops support.
Finmeccanica is discussing a sale of 6-8 additional Alenia C-27J transport aircraft to Peru. “There are no bad surprises in the third quarter accounts, business is going as planned, and maybe before year-end well be able to do something better” than expected, Reuters quoted Finmeccanica CEO Mauro Moretti as saying Oct 28
Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi has delivered the first C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft to Peruvian Air Force. The delivery of the tactical transport aircraft is the result of an agreement between Alenia Aermacchi and the Peruvian Air Force made of two contracts, the company announced in its press release on Friday
Alenia Aermacchi and the Slovak Defence Ministry have signed a contract for the supply of two C-27J Spartan aircraft including the training of pilots and maintenance personnel. The acquisition of the C-27J by the Slovak Air Force is part of the Slovak Armed Forces modernisation programme, of which the two new tactical transport aircraft are a first step
Alenia Aermacchi has successfully conducted operating and training tests on the Romanian Air Forces C-27Js, with the new fire fighting system, Caylym Guardian, onboard. The new firefighting system system allows C-27Js to drop up to six large cardboard containers on bushfires; each container has a capacity of 1000 liters water or extinguishing liquid
Leonardo delivered the first two C-27J military transport aircraft at a ceremony in Nairobi on Thursday. The handover ceremony was presided over by the Kenyan President, Leonardo posted on its Twitter account
Leonardo and South African Paramount Group signed a letter of intent (LOI) today to develop a weaponized version of the M-345 trainer jet for the African market. Leonardo and the Paramount Group signed a Letter of Intent during the “Africa Aerospace & Defence” exhibition held in Pretoria
