Embraer has completed the maiden flight of the first series production multi-mission medium airlift KC-390.
As agreed with the Brazilian Air Force, the aircraft will now join the flight test campaign, in which more than 1,900 flight hours have already been logged. The KC-390 is joint venture between Boeing and Embraer.
Civil certification of the basic aircraft will be granted by Brazilian aviation authority ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) and is expected to be achieved very soon.
“Today we celebrate another important milestone into the production of the KC-390”, said Jackson Schneider, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “This aircraft combines outstanding flexibility with superior performance and productivity”.
Embraer´s KC-390 is a tactical transport aircraft designed to set new standards in its category while presenting the lowest life-cycle cost of the market. It can perform a variety of missions such as cargo and troop transport, troop and cargo air delivery, aerial refueling, search and rescue and forest fire fighting.
Boeing and Embraer are in talks to set up an assembly line for the production of KC-390 cargo jets in the United States. The two aircraft manufacturers announced a deal for sales and services partnership on the new KC-390 jets through a separate defense venture that they said was likely to eventually receive a joint investment in July,
Embraer demonstrated the new KC-390 military transport and aerial refueling jet to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) for the attainment of the Initial Operational Capability (IOC). The achievement of the IOC ensures the necessary conditions have been met for the aircraft to start operations, in accordance with the scope agreed upon with the FAB
The Portuguese Council of Ministers on July 27 authorized the defense ministry to open negotiations to buy five Embaer KC-390 twinjet tanker-transports with an option for a sixth aircraft. Along with five aircraft purchase, The Cabinet resolution, now published in the Portuguese government gazette, Diário da República, also mentions logistics support and a Category-D full-flight simulator to be installed and operated in Portugal,
Embraers KC-390 Basic Vehicle has recently been certified by the IFI (Industrial Fostering and Coordination Institute), the Brazilian Air Force organization responsible for military certification. The Provisional Type Certificate attests that the KC-390 in this basic configuration complies with the certification basis requirements
