Saab has received an order to deliver Ultra Lightweight Camouflage Net Systems (ULCANS) to the United States Army worth USD 66 million (approximately SEK 586 million)
Deliveries are expected to take place in 2019-2020.
Production for new order, comprised of both woodland and desert camouflage systems will take place at Saab Defense and Security USA’s business unit Saab Barracuda, based in Lillington, North Carolina.
Saab’s ULCANS is an all-weather, state-of-the-art, signature management concealment system designed for ease of use and high reliability for the users and is the only signature management solution designed and developed entirely in the U.S. specifically to meet the needs of the US Army.
“Saab’s camouflage systems provide the US Army with a state of the art signature management capability for its land forces including exceptional levels of multispectral protection against any possible sensor threat available today”, concludes Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab Defense and Security USA.
Fibrotex Inc Edged out Saab Barracuda to win US Armys Ultra-Light Camouflage Netting System (ULCANS), under a 10-year contract worth $480 million. The contract award follows a two-year period competitive testing, trials and data collection conducted by the US Armys Natick Soldier Systems Center (PM-FSS), which assessed camouflage technologies from major global manufacturers against the Armys most advanced battlefield surveillance sensors
Saab has signed a framework agreement with Denmark and Norway under a joint procurement process for the supply of static and mobile camouflage systems to their armed forces. The agreements allow the two countries to place orders for camouflage systems over a four year contract period
Russia has planned to equip its Strategic Missile Forces with 1500 camouflage kits in 2017, with the priority given to Topol-class Intercontinental ballistic missile-launching units. The nuclear forces will receive up to 1,500 kits for their mobile missile units, " 15 times more" than they did in 2013
