Russian United Aircraft Corporation made a strong pitch for civil aircraft in India including MC-21, SSJ-100, Il-114 and Be-200 during the ongoing Aero India Airshow 2019.
UAC is keen on providing its three aircraft for high density, low-yield routes which is a common factor Indian civil aviation, Kirill Budaev, Vice-president Marketing & Sales for Irkut Corp, VP Sales Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (MC-21/SSJ-100 programmes) said during a press briefing on the second day of Aero India Airshow Thursday.
“The Indian airliners could use these aircraft for Government of India’s regional airport development and "Regional Connectivity Scheme" (RCS), UDAN program that connects low-yielding routes,” Kirill added during the presentation.
UAC is also looking at providing unified after-sales service for all Russian aircraft and called it a key priority for the growth of their presence in the Indian aviation market.
The Irkut MC-21 is a single-aisle twinjet airliner, developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau and produced by its parent Irkut, a branch of the UAC. The initial design started in 2006 and detailed design was ongoing in 2011. After delaying the scheduled introduction from 2012 to 2020, Irkut rolled out the first MC-21-300 on 8 June 2016 and first flew the aircraft on 28 May 2017. MC-21 is powered by a turbofan engine, PD-14, developed by United Engine Corporation through Aviadvigatel and NPO Saturn.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 or SSJ100 is a regional jet designed by Sukhoi, a division of the United Aircraft Corporation. Its development started in 2000, it made its maiden flight on 19 May 2008 and its first commercial flight on 21 April 2011 with Armavia. SSJ-100 is powered by PowerJet SaM146 engine produced by the PowerJet joint venture between Snecma (Safran) of France and NPO Saturn of Russia
The Ilyushin Il-114 is a Russian twin-engine turboprop airliner, designed for local routes. Intended to replace the Antonov An-24, it first flew in 1990. A total of 20 Il-114s have been built. The aircraft is powered by two Klimov TV7-117S turboprop engines, driving six-bladed propellers. The undercarriage is a retractable nosewheel undercarriage, while double-slotted trailing edge flaps are fitted to the wings.
UAC also pitched Beriev Be-200, is a multipurpose amphibious aircraft designed by the Beriev Aircraft Company and manufactured by Irkut. Marketed as being designed for fire fighting, search and rescue, maritime patrol, cargo, and passenger transportation, it has a capacity of 12,000 litres (3,170 US gallons) of water, or up to 72 passengers.
The aircraft can be converted into a non-amphibious format with few modifications, the company said during the press briefing.
