Bahrain Signs Agreement with US Army to Purchase Patriot Missile Defence Systems
Patriot PAC-3 air and missile defence systems for Bahrain
The Kingdom of Bahrain signed an agreement to purchase Raytheon's Patriot air and missile defense system from the United States Army. This letter of offer and acceptance allows the US government to begin contract negotiations with Raytheon for production of an undisclosed quantity of systems and missiles. "The Patriot System will ensure the Kingdom of Bahrain is well equipped to defend against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and manned and unmanned aircraft," said Ralph Acaba, president of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. "Patriot is continually modernized, enhanced and upgraded…” A Raytheon press release on the topic yesterday did not mention when the agreement was signed. Bahrain had requested the US DoD to supply $2.478 Billion worth 60 PAC-3 missiles and related systems in May this year. The Middle Eastern country was earlier reported to be in discussion with Russia to buy the S-400 system fro Russia.
