In the aftermath of the Yemeni attack on Saudi oil fields, the Pentagon has announced deployment of Patriot air defense system, Sentinel radars, as well as station 200 additional troops in Saudi Arabia.
"In light of recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and at their invitation US will deploy one Patriot battery, four Sentinel RADARs and approximately 200 support personnel,” Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper announced Thursday.
This deployment will augment the kingdom's air and missile defense of critical military and civilian infrastructure. This deployment augments an already significant presence of US forces in the region, Pentagon said in a statement.
The Secretary has also approved putting additional forces on Prepare To Deploy Orders (PTDO). While no decision has been made to deploy these additional forces, they will maintain a heightened state of readiness. These forces include two additional Patriot batteries and one Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system (THAAD).
Turkeys President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the country would mull over the possibility of buying Patriot defense systems from the US, if they match up to the capabilities of the Russian S-400s it acquired for $2.5 billion in 2017
Lockheed Martin has won a $1.47 billion mega contract to build the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system for Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia will not be able to acquire the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense systems as the United States (US) senate has blocked $8 Billion arms sales to Riyadh and its allies, owing to their interference in the Yemen conflict. The Republican-led Senate joined the Democrats in a symbolic rebuke to President Donald Trump who had claimed earlier this year that "emergency" circumstances require Washington to provide Riyadh with more precision-guided bombs because of Iranian threats
The United States has planned to deploy to Romania one of its seven Terminal High-Altitude Area-Defense (THAAD) missile-interceptor batteries, the army has announced. The planned summer 2019 deployment coincides with a shut-down of the US Aegis Ashore missile-defense site, also in Romania, for a scheduled upgrade

Oshkosh-made M-ATV vehicles seen in a video footage released by Yemeni Houtis may provide a hint to their claim that they destroyed Saudi military vehicles in an attack launched on Sunday in Najran, a city along Saudi-Yemeni border. Yemeni Houtis announced on September 29 that they had carried out a “major assault” on Saudi Arabian-led coalition, claiming to have killed over 200 of their soldiers, other than annihilating military vehicles
Drone swarm attacks of the type that crippled Saudi oil refineries, could be hammered down with an electromagnetic weapon called “Thor” developed by the United States Air Force (USAF) research laboratory. The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) exhibited the counter-swarm electromagnetic weapon technology, called Tactical High-power Operational Responder (THOR), at the 2019 Air Force Association Air, Space, and Cyber Conference at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, near Washington and Virginia, from September 16-18
