GKN Aerospace has won a contract to provide lightweight wings, empennage and electrical wiring interconnection systems (EWIS) for ‘Alice’ all-electric aircraft.

“The collaboration agreement covers the design and manufacture of wings, empennage and electrical wiring interconnection systems (EWIS) for Alice, the ground-breaking regional electric aircraft recently launched by Eviation,” GKN Aerospace said in a release on Monday.

Alice:

Israel’s Eviation began development of ‘Alice’ plane in 2017. The jet targets middle-mile commutes of up to 650 miles. It was unveiled at 2019’s edition of Paris Air Show.

The aircraft has three pusher propellers – one behind its tail and one on each wingtip – and is designed to carry up to nine passengers and two pilots. It is designed to have a 565nm (1,050km) range at 260kt (482km/h).

Eviation offers two electric-propulsion system options for Alice: US company Magnix’s 375hp (280kW) Magni250s, or 349hp motors made by German company Siemens. The motors will be powered by a 900kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The firm had aimed to achieve the first Alice flight this year and certification in 2022.

The company assembled the first Alice prototype in northwest France. It shipped a prototype to Prescott for flight testing. On January 22, an electrical system fire significantly damaged the Alice prototype at Arizona airport.
