A US Air Force F-35A stealth fighter that was flying out of Eglin AFB, Florida has crashed with the pilot ejecting safely.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 pm local time when the F-35A was on a night training mission.

This is the second crash of an aircraft operating out of the base in less than a week, with an F-22 Raptor going down on Friday, May 15th. Even in that incident, the pilot was able to eject safely.

This would be the third crash of an F-35 that resulted in a total write-off of the airframe.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is not yet revealed if the pilot had sent a distress signal before ejecting. A previous F-35A Crash with Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) has been blamed on ‘spatial disorientation.’ The pilot had not indicated any on-board emergency in the JASDF F-35 crash.
