China's Navy deployed its latest long range bomber, the H-6J that flew along with the H-6G during a recent drill in the South China Sea.
Chinese media reported that the H-6J can carry seven YJ-12 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, with six under the wings and one in the weapon bay. The H-6J's weapon capacity is about twice that of the H-6G, with 50 percent farther combat radius to about 3,500 kilometers.
This is the first time the Chinese PLA has officially revealed the H-6J bomber, semi-official Global Times newspaper reported. The H-6J has the capability to conduct all-weather combat missions and is also capable of accurately attacking moving maritime targets, it said.
Earlier reports said that four H-6Js were first spotted in a PLA Naval base in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in September 2018.The Chinese navy operates different variants of the H-6- the H-6G, H-6M, H-6N and the H-6J and H-6K according to publicly available information.
