Russian 9mm Pistol with Armor Piercing Bullets Enters Production

The Russian Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TsNIITOCHMASH) has started serial production of the self-loading 9-mm pistol “Udav” whose unique features include armor piercing bullets.

Among the patented technologies is the design of the magazine, which indicates the number of cartridges. In addition, the muffler comes with a replaceable heat-absorbing module and two types of cartridges – increased penetration and reduced bullet velocity.

The armor piercing cartridge is capable of penetrating body armor of the second protection class, including body vests and helmets, at a greater distance than competing firearms. The second type of bullet travels at a reduced speed, which significantly reduces the sound and flame level of the shot when using a silencer.

“Work on the Udav pistol, which started in March 2014, has moved to the stage of serial production after extensive tests. An order has been received for the first production batch,” said TsNIITOCHMASH General Director Albert Bakov.

The 9-mm self-loading pistol has an effective firing range of up to 100 m, and is also capable of penetrating second-class personal protective equipment at a distance of up to 75 m. It remains operational in the temperature range from minus 50 ° C to plus 50 ° C.

The weight with a magazine (without cartridges) is 780 g, its length is 206 mm, and its height is 145 mm. Magazine capacity – 18 rounds 9×21 mm. Warranty pistol operating time – 10 thousand shots.
