A new generation sighting and rangefinder device that can detect camouflaged targets was unveiled today during the ongoing annual Army-2020 Forum in Moscow.

Developed by Central Scientific - Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITochMash), the “PDU-5” will enable the military to monitor terrain and detect targets even in conditions of limited visibility. The device can take photographs and video footage of targets, measure distance and angular coordinates to various objects, calculate Cartesian coordinates and in the end transmit all data via USB channel to the user.

“The device is equipped with a combined television, thermal imaging and night image intensifier tubes. For target detection and identification, including camouflaged ones, there are optical and thermal imaging observation channels,” Dmitry Trigolos, a high ranking official of TsNIITochMash, was quoted as saying by Interfax on Wednesday.
