Malaysia's SME Ordnance Sdn Bhd (SMEO) and Indonesia's PT.Pindad (Persero) sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for possible collaboration in the field of defence industries between the two sides. The MoU aimed to establish a platform for both parties to work together in areas of common interests such as exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise, and possible areas of co-production or work share. The signing ceremony at the SMEO Booth, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) was in conjunction with the 12th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA 2010). The Prime Minister, who earlier visited the exhibition, was joined in witnessing the signing by Malaysia's Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi and his Indonesian counterpart Professor Dr Ir Purnomo Yusgiantoro as well as the republic's Minister for Ministry of State-Owned Company, Mustafa Abu Bakar.At the signing ceremony, the SMEO was represented by its executive director General (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Shahrom Nordin while PT.Pindad by its President Director Adik Avianto Soedarsono. "This MoU symbolises the spirit of cooperation among Asean member countries in the field of defence industries collaboration that was mooted during the Asean Defence Ministers meeting in Bangkok in November 2009," according to a statement released at the signing of the MoU.
