Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions company, in conjunction with fourteen other companies, was awarded a $134 million contract from the Program Executive Office for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) to support the development and procurement of Navy above water sensors. Work under the contract will result in more efficient office and project management functions and continuity over the entire acquisition cycle. PEO IWS 2.0 is the Above Water Sensors Directorate within PEO IWS. Working with prime contractor Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc., Alion will provide support in the areas of program and financial management, engineering and test and evaluation. Alion’s efforts will support the development of advanced and future surface sensor systems, including the Dual Band Radar, Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program and the MK 53 Nulka Decoy Launching System. “As threats to the U.S. fleet continue to grow and evolve, sensor technology must also advance, in order to protect Warfighters and maintain a strategic advantage,” said Kevin Lees, Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Acquisition Program Management Group. “Alion’s technical and operational support, coupled with our long experience working with Program Offices, can help PEO IWS streamline processes and improve decision making.” The five-year, recompeted contract replaces two separate contracts – PEO IWS 2R Radar Systems Support and PEO IWS 2E Electronic Warfare Systems Support – by combining all of the work under a single contract known as PEO IWS 2.0. Alion supported the directorate under the previous contracts.
