Kongsberg has won a contract to deliver Sea Protector remote weapon stations (RWS) for Royal Norwegian Navy's (RNoN) combat vessels.

The Sea Protector is a remotely controlled, fully-stabilised sensor platform and weapon mount, designed to enhances the ability of the host vessel, supporting surveillance- and control missions.

In addition to protecting crew against hostile fire on the bridge and in the CIC, the weapon system provides self-defence and enhanced capability to counter asymmetric threats through an improved hit accuracy.

The system also offers increased dominance over opposing forces and serves as the main armament on Interceptors and small patrol boats.

Designed for naval ships and patrol crafts of all types and classes, the Sea Protector provides exceptional capabilities for harbour defence.

Earlier this year, the NDLO had selected Thales to provide through-life support for the six multi-role radar (MRR)-3D-NG systems, currently installed on to the Royal Norwegian Navy's six Skjold-class patrol boats (FPB).

Capable of cruising at speeds in excess of 55k, the Skjold-class vessels have a full load displacement capacity of 270t and a draught of 0.9m to 2.3m, enabling it to access very shallow waters unlike other craft.

The Norwegian Navy also operates Navantia-built five Nansen-class anti-submarine warfare frigates including HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen, Otto Sverdrup, Helge Ingstad and Thor Heyerdahl.
