Russian President Vladimir Putin was shown the export version of the MiG-35 aircraft at the MAKS-2019 air show by Ilya Tarasenko, Director General of MiG Corporation.

The MiG-35 is an all-new plane inspired form the MiG-29 that competes with the F-16 Block 70/72 in the world market.

According to a MiG handout translated the altered geometry of the airframe and updated radar have been created as per the wishes of potential foreign customers.

The MiG-35 was flown by Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots during the show. The aircraft is competing with the F-16 (F-21 for India), the Saab Gripen, the Boeing Super Hornet and the Dassault Rafale for a new order for 101 aircraft, a bulk of which are to be made in India.

The MiG-35 includes active phased array (AFAR) radar capable of capturing and tracking up to 30 targets at the same time. It also includes an optical-location station for searching, tracking and viewing air, ground and surface targets.

As power plants on the MiG-35, RD-33MK turbojet engines are used which provide 12% more power than the RD-33 engines that power the MiG-29.

Main highlights of the MiG-35 (Single Seat)/MiG-35D (Twin Seat):

Integration of fifth-generation information-and-targeting systems in avionics equipment;

Increased combat survivability achieved through the implementation of on-board defense systems.

Avionics combined with advanced weaponry make MiG-35/MiG-35D fighters suitable for a wide range of missions, including:

Air superiority in engagement with fourth- and fifth-generation fighters;

Interception of existing and emerging air-assault weapons;

Precision attacks on ground and surface targets without entering air defense areas, in daylight and at night, in any weather;

Aerial reconnaissance using electro-optical and radio equipment;

Participation in group actions and functioning as an air group airborne command post

The MIG-35D can function as an aerial refueling aircraft with the second pilot seat removed.
