Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has upgraded 10 Sukhoi Su-22 fighter jets and will soon equip them with long-range cruise missiles having a range of 1500 kilometers.
The IRGC’s fighter jets will be equipped with cruise missiles with a range of 1500 kilometers, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying by Tasnim Agency Wednesday.
Hajizadeh made the announcement on the sidelines of a ceremony, which was held in Tehran on Wednesday to deliver 10 Sukhoi Su-22 fighter jets overhauled and upgraded by domestic experts at the IRGC Aerospace Force.
With this upgrade, these bombers will be able to carry and fire smart and cluster bombs, and air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles with pinpoint accuracy, and to transfer data between drones from distances of several kilometers, he said.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
The Iranian Defense Ministry has launched a production line for its Fakour-90 radar based medium range missile. "The missile had been developed based on operational needs and in cooperation with the Army, Air Force of Iran," the State-run IRINN TV reported quoting Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami who visited the official ceremony on Monday
The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will begin receiving this year the domestically-built 'Karrar' (Striker) main battle tank which was unveiled in 2017. Deputy Defense Minister Reza Mozaffari-Nia was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency Wednesday that Iran manufactures 50 to 60 tanks every year and that the Karrar will be within that production schedule
