Turkey Begins Work on Next Gen KORAL Electronic Warfare System

Turkish defense contractor Aselsan has begun working on the next generation KORAL electronic warfare (EW) system.

In a press conference yesterday, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, revealed the development of the advanced KORAL system.

The country’s success against Syrian regime armor during its ‘Operation Spring Shield’ in February is largely attributed to the lethal combination of EW systems such as KORAL and Russian REDET; and Bayraktar TB2 and Anka-S combat drones that can endure EW threats. The Turkish systems blinded the regime’s radars, along with paralyzing the communication / radar network of Assad who did not have a fiber optic communication network in the region. The Idlib operation had shown that tanks need the support of air defense systems and EW systems to be effective.

KORAL Electronic Warfare System

KORAL is a land-based transportable electronic warfare system developed to jam and deceive hostile radars of enemy nations. It was developed under the Land Based Stand-off Jammer System project which started in 2009.

The system supports the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) operations by building information dominance and providing fast response time in a challenging environment.

KORAL is composed of Electronic Support and Electronic Attack System each mounted on an 8×8 tactical truck. Operation Control Unit (OCU) is in compliance with NATO standards and also supports NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) protection. The KORAL can search, intercept, analyse, classify, and locate the direction of multiple conventional and complex types of radar signals. It has the Ability to jam, deceive, and paralyse hostile radars. The system has an operating range of 200km.
