Russian Air Force Su-35 Jet Crashes in Sea, Pilot Ejects

A Russian Air Force (RuAF) Su-35 fighter jet crashed during an exercise in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk,  Khabarovsk Territory on Saturday with the pilot ejecting safely.

Interfax reported quoting the press service of the Eastern Military District: “On July 31, in the Khabarovsk Territory, during scheduled training flights, an engine failure occurred on a Su-35S aircraft. According to preliminary data, the aircraft crashed in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk.”

“The pilot ejected, was promptly found by the search group and taken to the airfield. There is no threat to the pilot’s health,” the report said.

An investigation of the incident is being carried out by a commission of the Eastern Military District.

The Su-35 is the top-of-the-line fighter aircraft with the RuAF with a relatively low accident rate. Aside of Russia, it is in service with the Egyptian Air Force.
