India's air force version of BrahMos cruise missile is all set to perform its maiden flight from Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft on Wednesday.
Defence sources told Indian Express that the aircraft will take off from an air force base by noon in West Bengal and fire the missile against a target over the Bay of Bengal.
"The launch window is 10 am to 12 noon. Two aircraft have been kept ready. While one has been integrated with the missile another will track all along its flight - from fire to hit. We all are excited for the mission," said a defence official from New Delhi.
Defence sources said the BrahMos Aerospace had to reduce the weight of the missile as it is to be launched from a moving platform unlike its army and navy versions. Some modifications have also been made in its design to easily integrate it in Sukhoi aircraft.
Jointly developed by India and Russia, the BrahMos missile is fastest in the world that has a strike range of 290 km and carries a conventional warhead up to 300 kg. With high-precision, it has devastating power at a supersonic speed of Mach 2.8.
The Indian Air Force will start receiving BrahMos air-launched cruise missiles for about 50 Su-30MKI starting January next year. "The Indian Air Force has signed a contract on the delivery of air-launched BrahMos cruise missiles from January 2018
Final preparations for test firing of the Brahmos Cruise Missile from the belly of a Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft are being made for possible launch in late November. "Some 20-30 hours of flying with the 2
Indian Army has test-fired Brahmos Block- III missile from a mobile autonomous launcher (MAL) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands Tuesday. Indian Air force will conduct final trails of the air-launched BrahMos cruise missile in Pokhran firing range in Jaisalmer by June first week. “The air launched version of the formidable missile shall be test-fired against a live sea-based target in second half of the May followed with a final test-fire against a live land target in Pokhran by May last week or June first week,” official sources at BrahMos Aerospace told
The addition of Brahmos and Astra missiles have enabled the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet to bolster India's strategic capability. With these advancements, the reach with air-to-air refueling and standoff performance, Su-30 MKI is a truly potent platform and is bolstering IAFs strategic capabilities, said Indias Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, after a sortie on the multi-role fighter in Jodhpur airbase on January 17
Indias Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman will fly in Indian Air Forces frontline Su-30MKI combat aircraft over Jodhpur on Wednesday, while reviewing the operational preparedness of the force. “The defence minister will undertake the sortie to gauge and review the operational preparedness and combat capabilities of the armed forces,” an Air Force spokesperson told Mail Today
Some 40 Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30MKI fighter jets are to undergo integration with the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile following the successful test firing of the missile from the air a fortnight ago. India Minister of State for Defence, Dr
Godrej & Boyce has received a fresh order to supply airframe fuel management systems for the BrahMos Air-Launched Cruise Missile after it handed over the 100th set of airframe assemblies to BrahMos Aerospace (BAPL), the company said in a statement Tuesday.
