Leonardo is exhibiting its mobile Electronic Warfare (EW) range capability service, which the company is offering to the Kuwaiti Air Force through its local in-country subsidiary, at the Kuwait Aviation Show, held from January 17-20.
The ‘EW Mobile Range’ will allow Kuwaiti pilots to test their aircraft against realistic representative threats in live exercises, using emitter equipment to simulate radio frequency (RF), InfraRed (IR) and laser threats. The service is appropriate for a number of aircraft types including Kuwait’s Apache helicopters, which are themselves equipped with Leonardo’s ‘HIDAS’ electronic warfare defensive suite.
As well as providing EW systems themselves, Leonardo provides ongoing training and operational support to Kuwait. Members of the Kuwait Air Force have completed a six month training course at Leonardo’s UK-based Electronic Warfare Operational Support (EWOS) facility, transferring the essential knowledge and skills that will allow the Kuwait Air Force to get the most out of the HIDAS system.
Visitors to Leonardo at the expo will also learn more about the Typhoon as well as about Leonardo’s M-346 trainer aircraft.
Kuwait recently strengthened ties with the company by ordering 28 Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft, production of which is already underway. The models delivered will be the most advanced produced to date, incorporating the Leonardo-led Captor-E AESA radar and weapon systems including Storm Shadow, Brimstone, Meteor and Marte ER. A number of Kuwait Air Force pilots have earned their wings at the Italian Air Force M-346 Training Academy, using a Leonardo’s latest-generation training system.
Saab will take part in an EU funded preparatory action project called OCEAN2020, to demonstrate technologies for enhanced situational awareness in a naval environment using unmanned systems. The project consists of a consortium representing 15 EU Member States, lead by Leonardo
Leonardo has been awarded the first European Defence Founds initiative, OCEAN2020, to boost Europe's defence capabilities, issued by the European Union under the ‘Preparatory Action on Defence Research programme. OCEAN2020 will see unmanned platforms of different type (fixed wing, rotary wing, surface and underwater) integrated with naval units command and control centres, allowing for data exchange via satellite, with command and control centres on land
The Leonardo, Top Aces and Inzpire team, named Red Aces, has been down-selected by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to compete for a contract to meet the Air Support to Defence Operational Training (ASDOT) capability. Team Red Aces is creating an industry-leading solution to provide a safe, highly representative live air support service to the British Armed Forces and its allies
Leonardo and Nozomi Networks, the leader in real-time cybersecurity and operational visibility for industrial control systems (ICS), have partnered to implement the safety of industrial control systems and critical infrastructure, with the help of deep network visibility, non-intrusive monitoring and continuous threat detection. The partnership will provide Nozomi Networks deep network visibility, non-intrusive monitoring and continuous threat detection capabilities to enhance Leonardos comprehensive Cyber Protection Program for Industrial and Critical National Infrastructures (CNI)
Leonardos AWHERO remotely piloted helicopter will achieve certification next year as flight trials activities continue with the existing test aircraft. Two new prototypes are being assembled at Leonardos fully owned company Sistemi Dinamici plant in Pisa (Italy), the press release states
