Leonardo has won a contract to deliver its ‘Miysis’ Directed InfraRed CounterMeasure (DIRCM) systems to a Middle Eastern customer.
The DIRCM protects aircraft from advanced heat-seeking missiles confusing their targeting sensors.
This new contract has already started deliveries of Miysis to the Royal Canadian Air Force and has secured a customer in the Middle East region, the company made the announcement at the ongoing Farnborough Airshow 2018 Monday.
The Miysis DIRCM locates and tracks an inbound missile and then shines a high-powered laser onto the missile’s targeting sensors, confusing the missile and directing it away from the aircraft.
The system’s modular, open-architecture design also allows for integration with a customer’s in-service missile approach warners and other defensive aids systems.
At Farnborough Air Show 2018, Leonardo will unveil a new Electronic Warfare (EW) communications intelligence (COMINT) product, called ‘Spider for the eight Radio Frequency (RF) antennas contained within the system. Spider is able to intercept and analyse enemy communications in real time
Leonardo will unveil the latest in its portfolio of electronically-scanning (E-Scan) radars, the Grifo-E at Farnborough Air Show 2018 to be held this month. The Grifo-E is the evolution of the well-received Grifo (M-scan) fire control radar for fighter aircraft, which has seen more than 450 units flying with six air forces
Leonardo has signed a 44 million euros (US$ 51 million) contract to supply an ATR 72MP aircraft to the Italian Customs Police and provide associated logistics support and training services. The contract was awarded following a European tender and includes options which would bring the total value up to 250 million euros (US$290 million)
Leonardo will provide 5 years support to UK MoD for its pre-flight threat simulation equipment for multiple air platforms. The unique capability assurance solution delivers through the supply of specialist RF-emitting equipment that ensures a defensive aids suite which will work correctly during a mission
Leonardo and an Italian polytechnic, Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) will collaborate on developing technologies for reducing noise and vibration besides reducing pilot workload. The goal of the programme is to demonstrate a significant vibration and internal noise reduction, through the coordinated use of passive and active systems
Leonardo has entered partnerships with L3 Technologies and Ultra Electronics Command & Sonar Systems (Ultra) to offer a complete Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) acoustic system based on Leonardos new lightweight ULISSES (Ultra-LIght SonicS Enhanced System) processor. Leonardo will offer an integrated system comprising ULISSES and either a dipping sonar provided by L3 or sonobuoys provided by Ultra, or a combination of both
SEonSE (Smart Eyes on the SEas), Leonardos geospatial maritime security platform, has gone live, the firm announced during the on-going Farnborough International Airshow on July 17. With the use of cloud computing and of advanced big data analysis models, SEonSE makes it possible to access in real-time, even from tablets or smartphones, customised information on what happens at sea, the companys press statement says
