Leonardo’s TH-119 helicopter has received Instrumental Flight Rules (IFR) supplemental type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The TH-119 single-engine helicopter allows pilots to operate the aircraft safely in low visibility and challenging weather conditions, owing to its designed by advanced avionics by Genesys Aerosystems and redundant helicopter flight systems.
The company is offering the TH-119 for US Navy’s plan to replace the fleet of aging TH-57 training helicopters.
Based on the successful AW119 Koala, the TH-119 is designed to provide advanced flight training and improved safety for next-generation of helicopter pilots. It is capable of operating under visual flight rules (VFR) and IFR conditions.
The basic empty weight of the helicopter is 1,600kg.The chopper features a pressure refuelling port, which allows its operators to perform hot refuelling during the flight.
Additional features include air-conditioning unit, dual flight controls, reinforced windshield, and dual independent hydraulic system.
The helicopter has the ability to perform touchdown auto rotations at its maximum take-off weight. It can be optionally equipped with a cargo hook and a hoist.
China has developed a new fatigue-resistant technology for helicopter rotors to reduce wear and tear of rotors of on-duty choppers. “The new rotor infused with anti-fatigue technology could be used on China's future heavy-lift transport helicopters and gunships, which need to perform extreme manoeuvers in combat,” Wei Dongxu, a Beijing-based military analyst, was quoted as saying by
Russian Helicopters is planning to re-engineer and manufacture nearly 30 different helicopter parts using 3D printing technology, starting from 2020. "This year we are finishing the re-engineering of around 30 different parts and details that will be manufactured using additive technologies

The US Navy has awarded Bell Textron a contract worth $815 million involving repair, upgrade and replacement of components under its H-1 Upgrade Program. “Bell Textron is awarded $815 million for an indefinite-delivery, performance-based logistics requirements contract for the repair, upgrade or replacement of 35 items used on the UH-1Y and AH-1Z helicopter, along with inventory management, warehousing and establishing supply response time metrics,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement Wednesday
Leonardos Multiple Aperture Infra-Red (MAIR) system installed on a testbed helicopter has completed its first flight test, the company announced Tuesday. The MAIR system provides crews with spherical missile warning, Hostile Fire Indication (HFI), day and night imaging and Infra-Red Search and Track (IRST) functionality
