Global Navy and Coastguard top-brass to attend inaugural International Maritime Security Conference during IMDEX Asia 2009

Navy and coastguard top-brass from the region and beyond will converge in Singapore to attend IMDEX Asia 2009, the premier dedicated maritime defence show serving the Asia-Pacific region, to be held at the Singapore Expo from 12-14 May. This year, the landmark maritime exhibition will be complemented by the first International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC), organised by the Republic of Singapore Navy, together with the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies and SingExhibitions. IMDEX Asia 2009 is organised by IMDEX Asia Singapore. IMSC will be held from 13 -14 May. More than 35 navies and coastguards will be represented at the show, including the conference. The top brass will comprise about 20 navy chiefs and director-generals of coastguards coming from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Qatar, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay. IMDEX Asia 2009 will be opened by the soon-to-be Deputy Prime Minister (effective from 1 April) and Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, on 12 May. Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence, will deliver the Keynote Address for IMSC on 13 May. The IMSC, which has the theme “Realising Safe and Secure Seas for All”, seeks to promote global maritime safety and security and update maritime practitioners on the latest cooperative efforts, legal and political frameworks and technological developments in this arena.
