Swedish Armed Forces to Receives first PATRIOT Air Defense Unit In November

The Swedish defense procurement agency, FMV which recently received the first unit of the PATRIOT air defense system (ADS) is currently assembling the first unit for  tests that will be carried out during autumn.

The tests will be spread over a period of six weeks. Ahead of that, the U.S. supplier (Lockheed Martin), together with FMV and with the support of the Swedish Armed Forces, will carry out the System Integration check.

The PATRIOT ADS is expected to be handed over the Swedish armed forces in November following conclusion of successful tests, the FMV said in a release.

“Delivery checks will be carried out in early autumn and then followed by training of officers and soldiers. After that, the first Fire Unit will be handed over to the Armed Forces for unit training. Then follow three more PATRIOT fire units in 2022 and 2023,” the release said.

The FMV had signed a contract for the new air defense system with the U.S. in 2018.
